founding

2004 —2005

Founded in the rural village of Rouses Point in upstate New York, NM began as a way to promote creative collaborations between artists of diverse media and different organizations to present new projects in the arts. Our founding event, Fete de Danse ('04, '05, '06, '07, '08), was produced in collaboration with the Rouses Point Historical Society and recruited and presented international and local talent during the summer on a main stage built inside the local ice rink.

2006 — 2016

While continuing to engage in summer projects in Upstate New York, NM began presenting arts events in Brooklyn establishing the first apartment gallery in Bushwick on Wyckoff Avenue. In April 2011, NM mounted its first collaborative ballet titled, In the Use of Others for the Change. Declared as “Bushwick’s first ballet” by Hyperallergic, the performance event united visual artists, sound artists, literary artists all in a single performance event. Additionally, and as a way of uniting the alternative galleries in Bushwick, NM began presenting Beat Nite in the winter of 2009, a gallery night featuring pop-up spaces and the more established galleries in the neighborhood. Lastly, NM began collaborating with Bushwick Impact to devise a weekly free arts for kids program. In 2014, NM made a new summer home at the Jay House located along the Au Sable River in the heart of the Adirondacks. Programing began almost immediately as we formed new partnerships with area artists and organizations. These programs included the Jay Invitational of Clay and the Au Sable River Valley Studio Tour. Additionally, NM established a summer residency aimed to introduce artists to new communities and communities to new artists.

2016-Present

In 2016, NM moved to East New York opening an apartment style gallery on Pine Street in Cypress Hills. In an effort to continue free arts program for kids, NM began collaborating with the Arlington Branch of the Brooklyn Library. CounterPointe continues as a women dance/art collaborative performance project, with performances selling out every season. NM, serving the New York City Metro area with a focus on Cypress Hills, remains an established leader and collaborator within the ever-changing urban landscape of Brooklyn, while providing residency and exhibition opportunities in summers at The Jay House in upstate NY.
