Norte Maar for Collaborative Projects in the Arts creates, promotes and presents collaborations within the disciplines of visual, literary, and the performing arts: connecting visual artists, choreographers, composers, writers and other originating artists with venues and each other.

Paul D’Agostino: Appearance Adrift in the Garden is the first one-person exhibition of the artist’s work featuring new prints and collages in which color, time, and subject fade into and feed off of one another. The exhibition opens with a reception for the artist on February 3 from 6-9pm. A reading from the artist’s latest writings, published in collaboration with Norte Maar, will take place on Sunday, February 19 at 4pm. The gallery at Norte Maar is open weekends 1-6pm. 12 evenings celebrating + playing John Cage
Live from the front room at Norte Maar

In celebration of the centennial of John Cage, Norte Maar will collaborate with E.A.T. to present Cage Transmitted: 12 evenings of performance. The evenings, occurring once each month and spanning the calendar year of 2012, will include music, poetry, theater, happenings, visual art, and dance. Each event will be broadcast live from the front room of Norte Maar’s apartment gallery–broadcast onto the street and live streamed on the web. Cage Transmitted is co-curated by musician Eric Lamb.

Norte Maar is pleased to collaborate with independent curator Sarah Schmerler to present Guilty / (NOT) Guilty. The exhibition introduces four New York-based, contemporary artists- Ellen Letcher, Francesco Masci, Alfred Steiner, and Pablo Tauler—who paint, draw, and make conceptual projects in methods that both take for granted — and re-cast —what society would like to consider as being good, reasonable (and therefore valid) reasons for making a work of art. The exhibition opens with a New Year’s Day Champagne Brunch on January 1, 2012, from 11am-2pm.

Norte Maar Goes To Miami

Norte Maar welcomes a new member of to our team. Curator and critic Hannah Daly jumped on board earlier this fall. Daly is finishing up her undergraduate work at New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study, and will be working with us as both a curator and designer.

Beginning this Wednesday, Daly will be taking over Norte Maar’s tumblr and reporting from Miami Art Week, with specific attention to alternative spaces and collaborative projects. Be sure to follow us for updates from inside the convention center, and far beyond.

Concrete Sound: an installation by Audra Wolowiec

Norte Maar is pleased to present a solo exhibition of new works by Brooklyn-based artist Audra Wolowiec. The exhibition will feature Concrete Sound, a sculptural installation made up of several hundred specifically rendered cast concrete sculptures that together explore the physicality of sound through shifts in materiality. Concrete Sound continues Norte Maar’s commissioning program to encourage, promote and support new initiatives in art making and will include a corresponding publication in collaboration between Wolowiec and writer and poet Christine Shan Shan Hou.

Also on exhibition are new paintings by Lindsay Walt and recent collage by Man Bartlett.

The opening reception will coincide with the bi-annual BEAT NITE: Bushwick Art Spaces Stay Open Late, October 28.

Participating art spaces include among others: Norte Maar, Centotto, English Kills, Famous Accounts, Regina Rex, Storefront, Valentine Gallery, and the long awaited debut of AirPlane Gallery.

Join Norte Maar one Saturday a month at the Bushwick Library in Brooklyn for our free children’s arts education program!

Originally designed and created in association with Bushwick Impact, a family and neighborhood support organization, as an effort to improve conditions for children and families in challenging city neighborhoods, Authors and Artists brings hands on experience in making, creating, reading and writing to children in the community.
