Beat Nite: the boisterous side of the Bushwick art scene.
Navigating tight quarters is second nature for any New Yorker. We bunk-up in studio apartments, do the sardine dance in subway cars, and barrel down the maddening sidewalks of Midtown. Last Friday in Bushwick was no different, and as Beat Nite: Limited Edition unfolded, droves of people filed in and out of some of the city’s tiniest—yet perhaps most spirited—art spaces."It had to be one of the most memorable moments I have experienced in the neighborhood," proclaimed Jason Andrew, the architect of the night. "From the terrific curation of the spaces, to all the spaces pulling together to help promote the night, to all the amazing people that attended, the night was just terrific. And then to have us all come together for the afterparty with PassKontrol, it was all quite special."

NM brings back the late nite in Bushwick.

NM and the New York Independent Art Scene.
Can Lifestyle just posted this terrific look back at our early roots as an innovator in the independent art scene in New York."One New York neighbourhood that’s definitely one to be investigated is Bushwick," writes Can Lifestyle, "the district has a lot to boast about with some of the best independent art galleries around. However, with this said, when thinking about touring around Bushwick, you have to move fast because some galleries might not be around next year.""The good news is," the article continues,"the ones that do survive could be the galleries making a massive impact on the art scene – so it’s always good to keep an eye on them and an open mind when visiting them. Three independent galleries in Bushwick worth taking a peek at are English Kills, Norte Maar and Pocket Utopia."

Alberto Giacometti comes to Bushwick.
Norte Maar is pleased to present Giacometti and a selection of contemporary drawings, January 26-February 24, 2013. The exhibition features a single drawing (double sided) by the great modern master Alberto Giacometti. The work is on loan from a private collection, New York, and will be the source of discussion in a show as it is juxtaposed with and against the work of ten contemporary artists. This is not the first time Norte Maar has brought historic material to Brooklyn. The Boys of Bushwick exhibition which open in April 2011 and featured the illustrations of Richard Haines, included loans from a work by Paul Cadmus and Pavel Tchelitchew. Additionally, Norte Maar has been noted for juxtaposing established artists with emerging talent as evident in it's To be Lady exhibition currently on view in New York City.
