The Léger Ballet (World Premiere)
A new ballet commissioned by Norte Maar featuring choreography by Julia K. Gleich (London, UK) and new score by composer Paul Siskind (Cranes School of Music), the ballet commemorates the life + work of Fernand Léger, the world-renowned cubist painter who summered in Rouses Point in 1943-45. Extensive research into Léger’s life and art was represented in choreography, costume, sound + set. Additional music by George Antheil, Henry Cowell, Richard Grayson + additional original scores by William Pfaff (Plattsburgh, NY) + Lola Perrin (London, UK).
The Léger Ballet celebrates Fernand Léger's life in Rouses Point: the train station that greeted him + the images + people that inspired him there.
This work was made possible in part by a grant from the William Kelly Simpson Fund.
