Norte Maar's Beat Nite is one New York City's longest running independent late night art hops. Since its inception in 2009 BeatNite has promoted the alternative art scene, making accessible the art spaces that promote the truly contemporary and cutting edge corridors of Brooklyn. For this its 14th Edition, Norte Maar sets its boom on Downtown Brooklyn. Here's a closer look at a few of the seven selected art spaces:
321 Gallery

321 Gallery is an artist-run space located on the garden level of a residential brownstone. Founded in 2012, the gallery’s mission is to highlight underrepresented artists while providing a platform for a range of curatorial endeavors. On view at the gallery through March 12: "The Limited Sphere" featuring works by: Aurora Andrews, Aileen Murphy, Barbara Ess, Christopher Rey Pérez, Dmitri Hertz, Gertrude Mertens, Tashawn Davis Peter Brock. The Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts (MoCADA) uses the visual arts as a point of departure for exploring new artistic production across a variety of disciplines. Through exhibitions and programming, MoCADA incites dialogue on pressing social and political issues facing the African Diaspora, and fosters a dynamic space for the creation and continuous evolution of culture. For the first time in the eight-year history of BeatNite, Norte Maar features a look inside the home of one of New York's most celebrated dance companies: The Mark Morris Dance Group. The mission of the Mark Morris Dance Group is to develop, promote, and sustain dance, music, and opera productions by Mark Morris and to serve as a cultural resource to engage and enrich the community. For Beat Nite, and fresh from their residency at Robert Wilson's Watermill Center, Norte Maar has invited the fearlessly physical, poetically-nuanced dance and performance group BOOMERANG to be in studio at MMDC showing excerpts of there most recent work which will premiere at Dixon Place in March 11 & 12, 18 &19, 26 & 27. __________About Beat Nite:
Beat Nite made its neighborhood debut in February 2009, featuring all of Bushwick’s alternative art spaces and galleries—at the time, only seven. The event grew into a biannual occurrence offering an awesome neighborhood-wide event that many have labeled “half art stroll, half bar crawl.” With over 50 galleries and alternative spaces now in Bushwick/Ridgewood, beginning in 2012 a special guest curator was invited to select spaces from the community’s many great offerings. In the fall of 2015, Norte Maar launched a new initiative with the Beat Nite program to feature new emerging artistic communities in Brooklyn and beyond.
