NM Co-Founder Julia K Gleich honored as Distinguished Alumni by University of Utah

Salt Lake City, UT-Norte Maar is pleased to announce our Co-Founder and President, Julia K Gleich, was recently honored as Distinguished Alumni Award by the University of Utah College of Art. The celebration included an award banquet as well as the annual College Assembly which featured highlights from the careers and accomplishments of this year's honoree cohort as well as live performances by current students from the six academic units of the College. The awards took place on the campus of the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, October 1 & 2.

In the academic year of 1948, President A. Ray Olpin established the College of Fine Arts at the University of Utah to educate, train and nurture students with tremendous talent, eager to become visual and performing artists. "Today," announced Raymond Tymas-Jones, Dean, College of Fine Arts, "we celebrate the legacy of excellence this College has established in art, dance, music, theatre, and film that had its beginning more than sixty-five years ago and continues to impact the creative capacity across all disciplines."

Julia K Gleich, graduated from the Ballet Department at the University of Utah receiving her MFA in Ballet in 1994. She is an internationally recognized choreographer, teacher, scholar and mathematics aficionado and the founder and Artistic Director of Gleich Dances. ​Ms. Gleich’s work has received critical acclaim in The New York Times, DanceInsider, Village Voice, The New Criterion, The Brooklyn Rail, among others.

Ms. Gleich is currently on faculty at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance(London,UK) and is Head of Choreography at London Studio Centre and frequently teaches at Peridance. She is founding choreographer and director of Gleich Dances, which began as A Coterie of Dancers in 1993 in Jackson Hole (WY), and later became Gleich Dances in 1995. Gleich Dances enjoyed two seasons produced by NYC’s JoyceSoHo (’01, ’03). The company has been seen throughout the United States and in the UK.

In 2004, Ms. Gleich with Jason Andrew founded Norte Maar for Collaborative Projects in the Arts with a mission to renew and refresh the exchange between the interdisciplinary arts. Ms. Gleich is also a founder and director of Aegis Live Arts, creating unique locational dance works that enliven history and architecture in London.
