NM announces new fall season!
Bushwick, Brooklyn-Norte Maar, now celebrating its 10th Anniversary, is pleased to announce its new fall season of exhibitions, events, and performances. Here is a quick go to guide for its fall season taking place in Bushwick and beyond.
October 2014-March 2015Norte Maar Presents @ Schema ProjectsIn celebration of its 10th Anniversary Bushwick’s first non-profit arts organization, Norte Maar, will be curating new exhibitions, readings, and performances at Schema Projects (92 St. Nicholas Avenue, Brooklyn). Schema Projects was the first Bushwick gallery dedicated exclusively to works of art on paper. Housed in a former barbershop storefront, it is the brainchild of New York artist Mary Judge, well known for her dedication to all forms of drawing, both as a studio artist and educator. Norte Maar Presents @ Schema will run October 2014-March 2015.
October 24 @ various art spaces in and around BushwickBeat Nite: Exchange Rates Special EditionJason Andrew and Norte Maar bring back the late night in Bushwick with the 11th edition of Beat Nite featuring a special international edition. Beat Nite: Exchange Rates will be held Friday, October 24, 6-10pm and will feature Bushwick based art spaces hosting an international exchange of galleries and artists. The late night gallery hop will be held during the run of Exchange Rates: An International Exposition (October 23-26) where spaces will be open daily from 12-6pm.
November 1 @ Brooklyn Museum, 7-9pmThe Brooklyn Performance CombinePresented in tandem with Brooklyn Museum's exhibition Crossing Brooklyn: Art from Bushwick, Bed-Stuy, and Beyond, Jason Andrew and Norte Maar produce a unique version of an event-mashup that combines Norte Maar's full arsenal of poetry, painters, and performance. The 2-hour durational event will feature the best of Brooklyn based writers, artists, dancers, sound artists, and performers on stage (sometimes all at once) in the museum's Beaux-Arts Court.
November 7-December 14 at Norte Maar @ Schema ProjectsEtched Impressions: 18 Years of Jennifer Melby EditionsMaster printer Jennifer Melby first opened her etching studio in 1978 in the Bowery in New York City. In 1996 she relocated to her current address in downtown Brooklyn to work collaboratively and selectively one on one with artists to develop small yet striking limited editions. In 1996 she began publishing exclusively through Jennifer Melby Editions.
December 15 at Bushwick StarrEnd of the World II: a performance benefit for Norte MaarJoin Norte Maar in an event celebrating and benefiting the 10th Anniversary of the organization. The event will feature a 45 minute performance-combine that revisits and celebrates the artists and events of Norte Maar's very colorful and historic past.
