Sarah Schmerler, guest curator of Norte Maar's first show of this year, published a piece in the February issue of the Williamsburg Greenpoint News+Arts. In "3 Ladies of Chill Repute," Schmerler proposed a 'round robin series of interviews and gallery visits' and invited Deborah Brown of StorefrontBushwick and Gwendolyn Skaggs of Sugar to visit and discuss each respective space's current shows, including her own show Gʉilty / (NOT) Guilty, which recently closed at Norte Maar. Asked by Skaggs who her influences are Schmerler states, "I've been very influenced by the radical art historian Aby Warburg, who died in 1929 (Luis Perez-Oramas of MoMA turned me on to him). Also by Hudson, of Feature Gallery, who makes idiosyncratic yet totally trackable decisions in what he chooses to hang."To see the article in it's entirety click here.
