“You see in my experience, the opportunity given for creativity for women in the dance world is just less than men. In so many ways it mirrors politics in that it very much feels like a Man’s Club. Men artistic directors hand down positions to men and hire men choreographers. They understand each other and women often feel left out or unheard–very strange for a profession that epitomizes the beautiful women in a tutu and tiara. But perhaps also it epitomizes the seen and not heard cliche that is out of date even for today’s children.” Watch Ashley’s full statement here:
