Don’t know where to start your Beat Nite wanderings? While all of the 10 participating art spaces are sure to deliver a festive Beat Nite, here’s a few happenings not to be missed. So download your map and check out these highlights.
Falling for Love @ OUTLET:
Want to bask in Eros’s glow for just a bit longer? OUTLET Fine Art (253 Wilson Ave) will host “The Heart of Lulu,” a one-night-only performance by German artist Lulu Obermayer. After transforming the space into an enlarged beating heart (the artist’s own, we are encouraged to believe), visitors are invited to wander the corridors of the intimate organ, listen to love poems, dine in romance, or even find yourself being courted by the artist herself.
Free for All Draw @ Sardine:
Pioneers of Inspiration, a Bushwick based art collective, will lead a night of cooperative drawing at Sardine (286 Stanhope Street). Sardine and POI have already got the basics, so grab your favorite pen (plus maybe a few to share) and head to the gallery to draw the night away.
Rise of the Robots @ Microscope:
Microscope Gallery (4 Charles Place) will be celebrating the opening of its show “Robots: Paintings by Amos Poe.” Poe is better known for his films, earning him legendary status among those involved in the No Wave Cinema movement of the early ‘80s. The filmmaker has never shown his paintings in public. But from first glance, his robot portraits look to reflect the same quirky wit found in his films.
Libations @ Bizarre:
Can’t make the skip around Bushwick? Then join catchup on all the events happenings Beat Nite had to offer at the official afterparty at Bizarre (12 Jefferson Street). The cabaret style bar and performance venue is another brand new addition to the neighborhood who made quite a big entrance for itself last month—three days of straight party. For Beat Nite, Jason Andrew of Norte Maar booked local rockers PassKontrol to headline the party, which promises to get walking feet dancing. “When ten of the most cutting edge spaces in Bushwick converge at Bizarre and with PassKontrol banging out the tunes, you can’t help but expect an awesome dance party,” cheers the after-party planner himself.
So pony-up Bushwickers, order an absinthe cocktail or two, and get busy with the late night side of Beat Nite!
